An American website was interested in knowing the origin of the company name and here I am along with other entrepreneurs: 15 Entrepreneurs Explain How They Came Up With Their Business Name at CEO Blog Nation.
Let me tell you more about how I came with the name:
When I founded the company for organizing parties and weddings, I had to create a name. As a teacher I used a Portuguese idiom to alert my students when they were distracted in my classes: “Mau Mau Maria!”. Then I thought about childhood and the number of times kid’s hear Mau Mau Maria in Portugal, because they are mischief-makers or just because they are children, growing up, discovering new things, and overcoming obstacles, but always happy to fulfill their goals.
Reflecting on this, it seemed the right name for the project I was about to start: Bad Bad Maria.
Ai Mau Mau Maria que o gato mia it's the Portuguese idiom which may be translated literally by Bad Bad Mary, that the cat's already meowing and can be used when someone is upset by kids’ bad behavior. With Bad Bad Maria the cat will meowwww – in metaphorical way of course-, because if a challenge arise is to be grabbed immediately or if any problem goes on the way it’s not a problem at all, it’s just another challenge to surmount.
